Kids on the Run Marathon

A couple weeks ago, the kids ran a local race designed just for kids by the local Running Club. Bub & Domba ran the 2k, Shrimp the 1k, and Mini-Me the 500 yd dash (her first race).
It may not sound like much, but in the months previous, both Bub & Domba ran 25 miles in bits & pieces as part of a "marathon". Then the run the rest of the marathon together (the 2k) at this race. We did something similar in Michigan called the Martian Marathon which was also fun. It was great motivator to get the girls out and running before our Cross Country Kids season started, especially when the weather was so nice and not too hot yet.
My little Domba ran SO well, with the constant smile she always has on her face when she runs. Reminds me a lot of Grandpa Hansen's smile...
And Bub was AMAZING as usual. She ran the 2k at an under 8 minute pace. She was third girl, and the two girls (and most of the boys) in front of her were at least a couple heads taller...
Shrimp ran the 1k which wasn't easy for her since she was still battling a cold (which we would later find out to be 5th disease). Still, she was caught up in the excitement and enjoyed running with the love of her life (Derek)... :)
She and Mini-Me had fun playing in the horseshoe pits while the older two ran their race.
Here they are (with their friend A who also ran the marathon). Good job, kiddos!

Passing on the trade...so fun to see all the girls participate. You are sowing the seeds early for little Marathon Mommies. I too love that at least Mimi enjoys running. There's something so delightful about your own child finding joy in the same things that make you so happy.
P.S. I got a peek at your cute belly in one of the photos. Please accept my virtual rub! :) Did I ever tell you about the old lady at the YMCA that rubbed my naked belly while we were in the showers next to each other? Yeah, that one made me a little squirmy.

My first thought when I saw the horse shoe pits was eww, cat pee. Hopefully they keep it covered when it is not in use.
